Brownsville’s Rising Guard: Jaleel Hanson Reaches 1,000 Career Points

Some milestones deserve to be seen early.

Jaleel Hanson, a 13-year-old, 5’9 shooting guard from Brownsville, Brooklyn, has reached a major basketball milestone with 1,000 career points at the middle school level.

Jaleel is believed to be the first middle school basketball player from Brownsville, Brooklyn to reach 1,000 career points, with no widely available public record showing another Brownsville middle school player previously reaching the same milestone.

For a young athlete, this is more than a number. It is a reflection of discipline, consistency, work ethic, and the kind of focus that separates promising talent from everyone else.

Verum Lumen Society helped bring early visibility to Jaleel’s story before wider attention followed. Shortly after, his school and other platforms began highlighting the achievement, helping bring more awareness to a young athlete already building his name through his scoring ability, presence on the court, and commitment to the game.

With consent from his mother, Verum Lumen Society also collaborated with Jaleel on an Instagram post to recognize the milestone and help shine light on the work behind the achievement.

Moments like this matter because young athletes need more than talent. They need visibility, support, and people willing to acknowledge the work before the world catches up.

Jaleel’s 1,000 point milestone represents a proud moment for his family, his school, and the Brownsville community. It also marks the early foundation of a young player coming out of New York basketball culture with the potential to keep growing.

His story is still being written, but the foundation is already clear.

Jaleel Hanson is one to watch.
